Trouvailles
Galerie Bob Gysin was established precisely 45 years ago, in October 1971, with the aim of showcasing the latest expressions of contemporary Swiss art and of promoting professional young artists. Owing to our long-held conceptual affinity with architecture, and our deep interest in the relationship between art and architecture, many of our activities have focused on actual and metaphorical ‘space’. Within a few years of its creation, the gallery became a meeting ground for the young art scene, and was able to make a lasting contribution to changing the perception of culture. In the meantime, many of those unknown young people have become seasoned artists of high renown.
Galerie Bob Gysin values commitment and continuity above fast-paced short-termism, which has gained it a firm footing on the changeable art-gallery scene. We are proud of our contribution to the cultural arena over the past 45 years, and of nurturing long-term relationships with a great many artists and art collectors. Our affinity to architecture has also led to a substantial number of collaborative projects related to art in architecture that have been inspiring and prestigious.
The exhibition TROUVAILLES – or DISCOVERIES – has been designed to celebrate our special anniversary. For the first time ever, pieces by those we like to call our ‘gallery artists’ are on display in a single space. Created in the context of each participant’s first ever exhibition at Galerie Bob Gysin, the works not only cover quite a long period, but reflect both the artists’ achievements and their relationship to the gallery. While some of the art presented here will be new to our visitors, other works may still resonate in your minds.
Alongside a piece from the estate of Bessie Nager, the show features works by Matthias Bosshart, Carmen Perrin, Andrea Wolfensberger, Christoph Schreiber, Teresa Chen, Georg Aerni, Christoph Hänsli, Dominique Lämmli, Anina Schenker, Karin Schwarzbek, Christoph Brünggel, Miriam Sturzenegger and Ray Hegelbach. Galerie Bob Gysin would like to take this opportunity to express our sincerest thanks to each one of our artists and to you, dear visitors and collectors, for your continuing trust and support.
Inaugurated in summer 2016, Galerie Privée in Lacoste in the south of France provides a new opportunity for our gallery artists to realise site-specific projects. By contrast to our gallery in Zürich, the new concept of Privée promises fascinating artistic interventions at and interactions with our stunning venue in a remote and peaceful location.
Of course we will continue to promote and assure the presence of our artists, and greatly look forward to showcasing thrilling new artists and their works in the years ahead.
