Galerie Privée 2023

Since the mid-1980s, there has been an increasing tendency towards geometric-abstract and rational art under the catchword "New Geometry", which also includes the paintings, drawings and objects of Raphael Kessler (1941-1996). As a counter-design to the figurative-expressive painting of the same period, Kessler's works reveal an interest in abstract compositions.

For Bob Gysin, he was one of the "most sustainable artists", even if the term "sustainability" was rarely used at the time: Kessler mostly used materials from demolition sites and dumps for his paintings. Instead of canvases, he used Pavatex or cardboard, and flat painter's paints made of resin or oil paint.
